Army Headquarters

Among Niemeyer´s Works during the military years, the Army Headquarters (1968-1972) is the most representative. The curious thing is that at the time Niemeyer was in exile in France, so the development of the building was with the architect João Filgueiras Lima. With column-walls in “U” and slabs in double “T” were erected nine buildings that harbor administrative and bureaucratic activities. A large free-form shell protects the permanent platform. An obelisk marks the hierarchically important space. The drawing resembles a sword.
