Esplanade of the Ministries

The architectural set up of Esplanade of the Ministries is marked by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Itamaraty Palace) and by the Ministry of Justice arranged face to face, showing individual prominence in the homogeneous set created by the Ministries buildings.

 The Esplanade is a monumental space, in which the horizontality prevails in relations to the buildings that limits it, being characterized by extensive free areas. The buildings of the Ministries are in the shape of rectangular parallelepipeds with glass facades, protected by metallic brise-soleil. They are arranged in two parallel rows. The main characteristic is its great territorial extension of low constructive occupation, which guarantees prominence for the Cathedral and for the National Congress, using a perspective artifice.
