The City Park

The City Park is a multipurpose park in the South Wing in Brasilia. It was founded on October 11, 1978 and has 4.2 km².

It is one of the largest and most extensive outdoor leisure centers in the city, concentrating sports courts, artificial lake, center and hiking, skating and cycling trails. The park is considered a patrimony of Brasilia.

Originally named after Rogério Pithon Farias, a young man – son of the governor at the time – who died in a car accident. It was renamed Parque Dona Sarah Kubitschek in 1997. It gained national fame when the Candango band Legião Urbana composed the song Eduardo and Monica, which fired in the radios all over the country.

The park receives an average of 40 thousand people a day and between 60 to 100 thousand people on weekends.

The leisure area, with toys for children is called Ana Lídia Park.

The park is open daily from 5:00 am to midnight, with several attractions such as: playground, amusement park (Nicolândia Center Park), kart track, cycle track, sports courts, skateboard, fountain square, and restaurants.

With urbanism by Lúcio Costa, Oscar Niemeyer architecture and Burle Marx landscaping, the park offers options for all tastes.

There are five courses for athletics: two 10 km, two 6 km and a 4 km track, all of them with the same starting point, in front of the parking 12 (to be traveled counterclockwise).
