Itamaraty

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs inherited the name of its correspondent and original in Rio de Janeiro when Capital. Constructed by Niemeyer he uses the theme of a glass box contained within two concrete slabs and a portico. The transition element that separates it from the public space is a large mirror of water, whose landscape design is by Roberto Burle Marx that incorporates both exotic species of tropical flora and sculptures of Brazilian Masters. The access to the building takes place through catwalks on the vast mirror of water, reinforcing its monumental character. The Palace it’s the jewel of the Republic. All protocol functions have place in the Palace, and for that it have cocktail lounges and also lounges for dinners representing the three capitals of the country. An architectural works of art, Itamaraty acquire a collection of work of art or great historical and artistic value. The commitment and integrated work of artist such as: Sérgio Rodrigues, Joaquim Tenreiro, Bernardo Figueiredo, Sérgio Camargo, Athos Bulcão, Rubem Valentim, Roberto Burle Marx e Mary Vieira among others has made this building the headquarters of one of the best public collections in the country. In the water mirror at the main entrance of the Palace we find Bruno Giorgi´s “Meteor” in Carrara marble executed in a single block with 4 tons of weigh which is the symbol of the Palace.
